DTF Printing on Performance Fabric - What to Know

Fabric Compatibility
Our DTF (direct-to-film) transfers are tested and applied to the performance polyester blend used on this shirt. DTF adheres well to smooth, tightly woven polyester and polyester-spandex blends. The flat, moisture-wicking surface of this garment provides consistent film contact, which supports sharp color reproduction and a firm bond after curing.

Curing & Bond
Each transfer is heat-pressed and fully cured before shipping. The curing process locks the adhesive layer to the fabric fibers. Prints may feel slightly firm immediately after pressing; this softens after the first wash as the film settles into the fabric texture.

Wash Care for Printed Performance Fabric
• Machine wash cold (30°C / 86°F or below) hot water weakens the adhesive bond over time
• Turn the garment inside out before washing to reduce direct friction on the print
• Use a gentle or delicate cycle; avoid heavy agitation
• Use mild, color-safe detergent avoid bleach, fabric softeners, or enzyme-based detergents, which can degrade the transfer edge
• Do not dry clean

Drying
• Tumble dry on low heat high heat settings can cause the transfer edges to lift or crack
• Air drying is the gentlest option and extends print life
• Do not iron directly on the printed area; if ironing is needed, place a pressing cloth over the print

Limitations to Be Aware Of
• DTF transfers on high-stretch fabrics (fabrics with significant spandex content or four-way stretch) may show minor cracking at the print edges over time as the garment is repeatedly stretched this is characteristic of film-based transfers on elastic materials
• Heavily textured or open-weave athletic fabrics are not ideal for DTF; the smooth construction of this shirt is specifically selected to minimize this issue
• Prints placed near seams or over highly curved areas (e.g., shoulders, side panels) may have slightly less uniform adhesion than flat-panel prints
• We do not make specific wash-count guarantees, as garment care, water quality, and detergent choice all affect print longevity
